The breathtaking view from the upper levels of the atrium at 1 Basinghall gives you a clear idea of just what OAG can deliver – even when the space afforded is relatively confined. Natural light wafts down through the low-lying glazed rooflight creating a dramatic and inspiring effect.
Completed in July 2007, the offices at Basinghall became the global HQ for Standard Chartered Bank, with plans by Bennetts Associates. OAG’s contribution included the design and installation of the silicone jointed glass atrium with a bespoke, shallow pitched roof. The unitised glass panels sit on extruded carrier frames, fixed to the steel framework that supports the roof.
Due to the narrow footprint of the site, the installation of the roof, steelwork and glazing required careful logistical planning. However, OAG came through and delivered and installed the atrium in one smooth operation.
The internal atrium features frameless glass wall linings and bespoke perforated metal spandrel panels so that the double-glazed office walls provide all the light required but are energy efficient and control noise. The atrium’s steel and glass is nicely offset by warmer touches like the wood and glass doors and timber handrails on the balustrading.
