Nomura Bank

London’s first Carbon Neutral Building, and our large-scale installation of glass wall cladding gives this building its unique and inspiring feel.

Project Story

Nomura Bank’s UK Headquarters is London’s first Carbon Neutral Building and our large-scale installation of glass wall cladding gives this building its unique and inspiring feel.

It’s the sheer scale of the work that we did at Nomura Bank’s UK head office that makes it so stunning. Within the reception area the glass cladding stretches nine metres high, meeting with the building’s dramatic slatted timber ceiling. The feel is a perfect marriage between practical eastern simplicity and urban modernity. We had to measure areas for cladding on-site as they became available on each floor, then deliver the glass and transfer it to the walls. First, plywood backing was put in place, then the glass was bonded to it with a stainless-steel feature detail outlining the glass panels.

Low iron glass with a white Vanceva interlayer is found in the lift areas, but for the reception a pre-acid glass called Satinovo was used, with a laminated white Vanceva layer creating the matt effect.

Project Story Continued

In other locations a matt black glass was used as a highlight. We also contributed clear balustrade glazing flush with multi-layered black glass to the building’s atrium bridge.

Finally, we installed a EI120 fire protection screen and 60/60 door to match on the staircase landing.
