Structural Glazing

Solution Description

The use of glass in structural applications has been increasing over the years with architects looking for a design intent where glass appears to float across the building.  The requirement to  provide a massive increase of natural light into inner building spaces has been achieved by using engineered glass construction techniques, such as bolted point fixed glass systems, structural silicone bonding products, bottom clamped and hung solutions all allowing the OAG design managers to achieve the designs of the architects and building contractors we work with.

Glass Roofs

Glass roofs allow designers to bring a flood of natural light into buildings or to cover open courtyards to increase usable space.  OAG have designed and installed many variants of glass roofs from all glass designs incorporating glass beam supports, to the more conventional created from aluminium, or steel profile framing sections to very low roof pitch requirements.  We can incorporate solar and thermal control from the glass specification whether from specialist coatings or other shading methods.

Glass Façades

Whether the façade design requires an all glass feature with conventional aluminium framing, or both, OAG can provide design solutions to cater for the spectacular or the conventional. Using known systems such as Spider Glass, Raico or Schuco, OAG will work with you and investigate the supply market to develop the design and then provide the most suitable system available, complying with thermal and solar performance for complete façade installations.

Glass Bridges

Creating open space presents the problem of moving efficiently between two sides of a building.  Having glass roof atria seems meaningless if solid bridges then span these spaces.  OAG have designed and installed steel framed bridges with glass floors allowing light to fall uninterrupted through these feature spaces. Whether designing a massive atria or creating access over a basement, we can provide the required design to maintain privacy and safety whilst ensuring the design provides the required impact.

Glass Balustrades

OAG are renowned in this market sector for the innovative designs of balcony installations where the design intent is an all-glass structural feature.  Our designs cover all the relevant building codes when designing such structures whether the handrail is on top of, or attached to the glass.  We have also assisted in the design of major projects where a mixture of structural glass and architectural metalwork have provided a solution to take huge crowd loads without compromising the aesthetic advantages when using glass.  OAG are also working to create an ‘Off the Shelf’ solution for cantilevered balustrade design by marketing a systemised glass balustrade system.  (See Products Section for further details)
