Angel Square

At the junction of Islington High Street, City Road and Torrens Street, Angel Square marks the reinvention of a prominent corner site in the heart of Islington. Designed by AHMM for Tishman Speyer, the scheme brings together three former office buildings into a renewed mixed-use workplace set directly above Angel Underground station, with active ground-floor uses, improved public realm and modern office space shaped around flexibility, connectivity and long-term use. 

A key part of the project’s approach was to build on what was already there. By retaining much of the original concrete frame, basement and foundations, the redevelopment significantly reduced demolition and preserved a large proportion of the existing structure, helping to lower embodied carbon while creating more adaptable floorplates for future tenants.

Within this technically complex refurbishment, we delivered specialist internal glass supporting the building’s fire strategy. Our works included EI60 fire-rated screens to the internal staircase from Levels 1 to 6, an EI120 fire-rated screen to the lower ground floor bike store and an EI90 fire-rated screen to the basement post room, alongside a non-fire-rated sliding window to the loading bay dockmaster’s office.

Set right above Angel Underground station, the project demanded careful coordination and precise detailing throughout. We were selected for our industry reputation and ability to deliver within budget, providing glazing solutions that supported compartmentation as part of a wider redevelopment defined by reuse, performance and considered renewal.
