Project Story
We installed a superb, glass-roofed atrium with atrium walkway and bespoke window designs at Sony’s European Headquarters.
When the electronics and entertainment giant Sony refurbished its European HQ, the company wanted to enclose a courtyard to create a breakout area for staff with a free and light atmosphere, where creative thinking would thrive.
Working with architects Morey Smith, we developed a bespoke roof and glass wall, with narrow-profile steel rafters supporting silicone bonded double-glazed frames. To ensure that the glass would shine as the key feature, rather than the supporting structure, an innovative solution was designed with the structural engineers at Adams Kara Taylor to brace the roof supports to the vertical walls.
A glass-floored atrium walkway was added, along with a variety of recessed and projecting pod windows on the main building. These give the space a slightly random feel, playing with the natural light in a unique way.
