The aluminium cladding, glazing and curtain walling installation at Begbroke Science Park — part of Oxford University’s renowned research and development hub — marks a significant addition to the campus. Commissioned by Mace, the project has created state-of-the-art laboratory and office spaces designed to support cutting-edge research in electronics, satellite technology, and medical science.
As part of our commitment to sustainable construction, we worked closely with our supply chain partners to identify carbon-efficient materials. Begbroke is notably the first project where we utilised Hydro CIRCAL 75R recycled aluminium, a carbon-efficient material containing at least 75% recycled content. Its use for the cladding and curtain walling of the ground floor spaces has significantly reduced the project’s embodied carbon, aligning with the client’s sustainability objectives while maintaining the exceptional quality expected for such a prestigious institution.
The project encompassed extensive work across two main blocks — the academic and commercial buildings — and featured glazing into precast panels for 400 windows, all pre-assembled off-site at Techrete, Scunthorpe, ensuring precision, efficiency, and the highest standards of workmanship.
