Project Story
1 Triton Square is a state-of-the-art office, retail, and leisure redevelopment near Euston Station, which was built in 1997 for the First National Bank of Chicago where it has undergone refurbishment to provide an environmentally responsible and sustainable workplace for 3,500 people.
To bring in exceptional daylight to the atrium, we designed, supplied and installed a 380sqm rooflight, which was formed from an 18m long by 4.5m high steel portal frame section that was trapezoidal in shape spanning over the roof atrium opening.
3m long steel purlins were then installed between the portal frames forming the roof glazing bays. To the outer face of the steel work, we installed a Raico roof and curtain wall glazing system which incorporated both capped and structurally glazed glass joints. The system also included bespoke glazed-in cladding panels, louvre panels, access doors, a perimeter gutter and drainage system.
Due to the size of the steel portal frames required to support the rooflight, we worked closely with Lendlease, who helped amend the construction logistics plan and the proposed route through London. We delivered the 18m x 4.5m prefabricated steel portal frames in one piece and lifted them into place on the roof using the main tower crane.

Only four portal frames could be delivered at any one time given the size and weight of the load. The remaining portal frames were delivered three days later allowing us enough time to brace the portal frames together by installing the individual 3m purlins.
