Project Story
We were contracted by Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd to carry out the installation of external glazing, doors, cladding and canopy as part of the refurbishment of 425 Oxford Street London. The lower levels of the building were to be retail space and the new flagship store for Adidas.
The works comprised of design, manufacture and installation of double storey height, 6-metre-high facade external glazing to the retail space, supported on a bespoke laser cut steel box section framing system designed and engineered by us specifically for the project.
We also installed bespoke powered automatic frameless glass double doors to the main entrance office space with powered bifold security gates for night-time/out of hours security, along with a bespoke entrance canopy with bronze anodised aluminium soffit, flank and fascia panels.
We were also responsible for the design and installation of both fire-rated and non-fire rated PPC finished steel window systems to the upper levels and external security doors to various locations around the building

Project Story Continued
There were a couple of restrictions that we needed to accommodate to complete this project. One being noise restriction (the upper levels of the building remained fully occupied throughout the refurbishment) and the other being the fact that Oxford Street is a busy thoroughfare. The retail glazing installation to three elevations of the building was carried out over a continuous series of night working, commencing at 10pm each evening. The huge high-performance double-glazed units measuring up to 6 metres x 2.6 metres and each weighing 1000kg, were delivered to site at the start of each night-time shift, manoeuvred into place and installed using a mini crane. Following completion of each glazing shift, all plant materials were removed prior to 6am each morning.
