Redevelopment of an iconic Grade II Listed building in Clapham, London

Project Story

We have been contracted to assist in the redevelopment of this iconic Grade II Listed building that has graced the Clapham Skyline since 1910:  originally designed in Georgian Baroque style by George Gibson.

The building has been home to a number of department stores throughout its life finally being split between TK Maxx and Debenhams.

Since Debenhams closed its doors in 2020, the plans include redevelopment of the ground floor frontage and adding a two-storey extension to the roof.

The key consideration when working on such an iconic building is to maintain its original features and add modern construction systems and methods so as not to take away from its original style.

Our work will include the replacement of the 1970’s canopy to the office entrance plus new soffits, awnings and shop fronts to the ground floor.

The new roof extension will consist of a cranked and raised curtain wall system with bespoke brass and bronze cladding rainscreen with SFS backing.

We will also be installing two new rooflights, one on the new extension and the another over the heritage dome.
