First commercial development in the UK to feature Hydro CIRCAL 100R and the first by a Tier 1 Contractor in London

Project Story

Located within the historic St James’s Conservation Area, 30 Duke Street, formerly known as French Railways House and 50 Jermyn Street, is undergoing a transformation. Designed by Make Architects, the project involves replacing two mid-20th-century buildings with a cutting-edge, eight storey Grade A office and retail space. 

We are proud to be part of the transformation of 30 Duke Street, a landmark project that sets new benchmarks for sustainability in commercial development. As the first commercial project in the UK to feature Hydro CIRCAL 100R, and London’s first commercial development to use ORAÉ® glass, 30 Duke Street is leading the way in sustainable building solutions. Hydro CIRCAL 100R is the world’s first 100% recycled aluminium building system, boasting an ultra-low carbon footprint of 0.417 kg CO₂e per kg of aluminium —94% lower than the global average. Meanwhile ORAÉ® glass is the world’s first low-carbon float glass with a certified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). Manufactured in the UK under Saint-Gobain’s Glass Forever programme, ORAÉ® delivers a 42% reduction in embodied carbon compared to standard float glass.  

Together, these materials are being integrated into the precast façade units manufactured by Grants of Shoreditch. At their Doncaster facility, we are installing our bespoke window systems, fabricated using Hydro CIRCAL 100R and glazed with ORAÉ® directly into precast panels before delivery to site. This off-site installation method ensures enhanced quality control, reduced site disruption and greater efficiency. Grants has provided us with two permanent weatherproof tents to enable uninterrupted production, regardless of weather conditions.   

In total, we are supplying and installing 35.6 tonnes of ORAÉ® glazing across all above-ground façades — a move expected to save approximately 20 tonnes of CO₂e compared to conventional glass. The use of ORAÉ® ensures that environmental performance is achieved without compromise, maintaining the same clarity, strength and durability as standard float glass.

We are responsible for the design and installation of several key elements including ground floor curtain walling, glass entrances, office windows spanning levels 1 to 8 (both square and arched head, with both inward-opening vents and fixed lights) as well as terrace glass sliding doors across multiple levels, all made with 100R aluminium.

Our additional work includes ground-level screens with a bronze anodised finish, an entrance canopy, glass balustrades for the terrace areas and a plant screen on level 8. 

Working closely with Mace, GPE and Hydro Building Systems UK, we will play a key role in delivering a future-focused commercial space that meets modern sustainability standards. This project exemplifies our commitment to innovation, demonstrating how sustainable materials can shape the future of architectural glazing.
