We are proud to announce our latest sustainability collaboration with Mace, GPE, and Hydro Building Systems UK at 30 Duke Street St James’s.
This pioneering project marks a significant milestone as the first commercial development in the UK and the first by a Tier 1 contractor in London to incorporate Hydro CIRCAL 100R – aluminium made entirely from 100% post-consumer scrap material
Hydro CIRCAL 100R represents a breakthrough in recycled aluminium, with a near-zero carbon footprint (0.417 kg CO₂e per kg of aluminium), which is 94% lower than the global average for primary aluminium. Via this partnership we aim for 81% of the aluminium used to be Hydro’s CIRCAL 100R, which will deliver a 82tCO₂e saving compared to standard aluminium.
Located within the historic St James’s Conservation Area, 30 Duke Street St James’s, formerly known as French Railways House and 50 Jermyn Street, is undergoing a transformation. Designed by Make Architects, the project involves replacing two mid-20th-century buildings with a cutting-edge, eight-story Grade A office and retail space.
We are responsible for the design and installation of several key elements, including the ground floor curtain walling, retail glass entrances, office windows spanning levels 1 to 8 (both square and arched head, with both inward-opening vents and fixed lights) as well as terrace glass sliding doors across multiple levels, all made with 100R aluminium.
Additional work includes installing the ground-level screens with a bronze anodised finish, an entrance canopy, glass balustrades for the terrace areas, and a plant screen on level 8.
This project is a great example of a forward-thinking approach to construction, embedding circular economy principles at its core. By championing resource efficiency and carbon reduction strategies, 30 Duke Street St James’s is setting a new standard for sustainable urban development in the UK.
